Trying to install KDE on a Thinkpad X121e with an AMD E-350 CPU.
I keep getting an "Illegal instruction" error for app-crypt/qca-2.0.3:

Quote:
./configure: line 2170: 2145 Illegal instruction .qconftemp/conf
fail

Reason: Unexpected error launching 'conf'

Google search shows someone having a problem at the same spot. His problem seems to have been related to his CFLAGS.

I've found a thread about CFLAGS for my CPU. And I've pretty much tried all the suggestions and reasonable-sounding variations thereof, but so far I'm not getting this beast compiled.

Specifically, I've tried:

#CFLAGS="-march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-3dnow -msse3 -msse4a -mcx16 -mpopcnt"

and these, among others:
#CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mtune=generic"
#CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=native"
#CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=btver1"
#CFLAGS="-march=btver1 -mtune=btver1 -fno-3dnow"

They all fail at the same spot.

dmesg reports:
Code:

[  155.986538] traps: conf[1429] trap invalid opcode ip:7fb42005ba66 sp:7fff11c50b20 error:0 in libQtCore.so.4.8.4[7fb41ff96000+2dd000]

Any ideas?

Try -march=native, if that's not the problem, see my last comment in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-962590-highlight-.html on how to fix your kernel.

Thanks for your response.

But "-march=native" has the same result,

And those kernel options had been enabled all along.

You said you tried various CFLAGS combinations, but you implied that you only tried them with the package you are trying to install. You should rebuild the package that provides libQtCore.so.4.8.4 with safe CXXFLAGS.

That was the missing step. After re-emerging qtcore, it worked wiith -march=native.

Thanks, guys.

Any other packages compiled with the incompatible CFLAGS may show issues as well.
You should consider a complete rebuild with the now working CFLAGS.

Code:
emerge -ev system
emerge -ev world

Best Regards,
Holger
