|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to install Gentoo in my laptop. I have chrooted from an OpenSuse installation and compiled a kernel from Gentoo but I got an error:
Code: | $make && make modules_install
...
LD init/built-in.o
fs/built-in.o: In function `nfs_dns_resolve_name':
(.text+0x1170cc): undefined reference to `dns_query'
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

Any idea? _________________ Linux Proud User: HP Pavilion 15-an002ns laptop (KDE Neon), Xiaomi Mi Air 12 (KDE Neon), Raspberry Pi 3 (Nextcloudpi), Docooler MS9 Pro (LibreElec) |

el_Salmon,
Your error is related to a piece of the kernel used for Network File System.
The linker is trying to resolve a symbol called dns_query, which is probably provided by a kernel option you have not selected.
You can grep the entire kernel for dns_query and when you find where its defined, turn on that option, or if you do not need NFS, you can turn off NFS support in the kernel. _________________ Regards,

id pull down kernel.org's 3.9.6, and follow manual kernel compilation wiki from gentoo. dont forget to include your sata, pata controllers & file system, & definitely compile in DEVTMPFS!!!! |

666threesixes666,
kernel.orgs kernels are gentoos vanillia-sources.
The latter has the advantage that portage keeps track of things.
This problem looks like it may be a kernel bug, as the kernel tries to force on options that other options need. _________________ Regards,

Hmmmm... tell us the truth first... it's a git-sources-3.10-rc5, isn't it ? _________________

No, it's the last gentoo-sources:
Code: | emerge -pv gentoo-sources
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.8.13:3.8.13 USE="-build -deblob -symlink" 0 kB
Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB |
I will try to remove .config and to start config from zero but it needs quite effort. _________________ Linux Proud User: HP Pavilion 15-an002ns laptop (KDE Neon), Xiaomi Mi Air 12 (KDE Neon), Raspberry Pi 3 (Nextcloudpi), Docooler MS9 Pro (LibreElec) |

Do you mean you removed your custom .config ?
Out of curiosity, how had you made it ? _________________

It was a bug, I would like to see the config to reproduce it and have this filed at https://bugs.gentoo.org such that I can keep track of it and look into it; but well, the config is likely gone now...
As far as I see, this forum topic itself is the only occurence of it on the internet. |

Code: | but well, the config is likely gone now... :( | No, I keep it. I did a "mv .config .config-bad" before "make mrproper". If I have enough time, I will submit a bug to Gentoo. _________________ Linux Proud User: HP Pavilion 15-an002ns laptop (KDE Neon), Xiaomi Mi Air 12 (KDE Neon), Raspberry Pi 3 (Nextcloudpi), Docooler MS9 Pro (LibreElec) |
