Hallo, i build my Kernel for a long time for my own and used for my laptop my old .config of gentoo-sources from my PC, changing a few harware-driver.
That worked fine for gentoo-sources 3.7.10
But to add a few components and use tuxonice i configured tuxonice-sources-3.8.13 with the working .config .
I added driver/x86 specific driver /samsung as modules.
after
Quote:
make && make modules_install
and booting, i got the error:
Code:

can not translate "" into a device id yet
VFS cannot open root device or unknown block (0;0) error -6

even genkernel is not able, to make a bootable Kernel.
i tried it after
Quote:
make mrproper

this failure i can reproduce with the former working gentoo-sources as well.

The worse thing is, that i lost my old working .config-file after trying.
I tried a few times to build a completely new .config, with exactly the same error message while booting.

My .config and hardware:

http://bpaste.net/show/107416/

lshw short http://bpaste.net/show/107422/
lshw longer as html: http://bpaste.net/show/107423/

Can anyone look, if the file is right or i if i have a few failures there?

google gives one bug for tuxonice-sources years ago, but i wonder, why the gentoo-sources stoped working.
i also build the kernel today on my second backup-system, exactly the same error.
The old kernel is still working, even with the new modules (gentoo-sources 3.7.10).

Thank you.

You are missing HDD controller support, go to http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/ and follow directions. Use this information to configure your kernel.
