There was a report earlier this week that the minimal install CD (which is autobuilt periodically) may currently be broken. This isn't confirmed, but you might want to try the SystemRescueCD anyway.

I'll try to confirm. What exact minimal install CD ISO (or other ISO) did you download?

The latest minimal iso's are broken in the fashion you describe for one of my machines but run perfectly on another suggesting a hardware dependency. install-amd64-minimal-20130516.iso install-x86-minimal-20130528.iso
@Buddha623 do you have a uefi bios? And/or are you using a usb cdrom or flash drive?
sysresccd fine on both machines.

I was using a usb flash drive to try and install gentoo and i am not sure about my BIOS. I'm just going to go the sysreccd route.

@Buddha623,

As it happens, release engineering is already looking into this and a bug has been filed. Please follow the other thread (New to Gentoo, used to Debian style "(none) login:"?????) as there's more activity there.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads.
