oi guys,
I want to make a android app, and I am interested in suggestions on how to make it work on gentoo.
As I gather, eclipse is better than netbeans, for base, on which andriod 'extention' is added (https://sites.google.com/site/uvlight/androiddevelopment).
Note my poor knowlage of naming stuff, I am struggling with english as it is, sorry and thanx.
But as I want to emerge eclipse, there is not much of stable versions, or am I not understanding this:

Can't you just download adt and unpack it in /opt ? I don't see what you could gain from installing eclipse via portage, or any other java software... |

Or anything else, really. I mean, why do we need Portage?
Seriously, if Portage can manage something, it's better to let it. That said, Portage's Eclipse package is unfortunately somewhat out of date.
@while true, you'll also need dev-util/android-sdk-update-manager.

hello guys,
sorry for delayed response, I had 'working' weekend;
but I did some things last week:
I firstly did portage way,
(unmask, keywords, licences, fetched restricted, over 80 packages emerged)
and followed steps as described in link (first post),
but that did not do the trick :/
also I added overlay to get 3.7 eclipse, but I could not set android either...
So, today I downloaded a bunch of stuff,
eclipses, androids, sdks (I just do not know, I downloaded over a giga of stuff)
unzipped and managed to set it up, and so far so good...
I guess with those downloaded stuff I got all dependences needed to work,
but have payed with some disk space, in contrast having portage keeping my system clean,
and I am jet to see how it is with updates, kheh heh...
Hopefully I can now play and make some android apps!!!
and please, do not scare me with jokes that I do not need portage,
noob as I am I would be lost to track down packages to make some app work...
(ebuild/portage guys, do not listen to them, I need you!!! I do not want to go to binary distro ever again!!!)
Guys thank you for your input and time,
and to take this opportunity to thank all guys making ebuilds - thank you too! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic
