PostPosted: Tue May 14, 2013 5:08 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED] Re-create config files Reply with quote

I've accidentally deleted nagios config files. How could I re-create them ? I'm talking about default files in /etc/nagios/.

I did emerge --depclean -av nagios to remove the package and then re-emerged the package but still, no config files in /etc.

Thankx.

fxstar ...

you can either use the '--noconfmem' option, or, as these files are either in the <category>/<package>/files dir or in the source tarball copy them from there.

fxstar ... ok, thats odd, because the manpage states:

Quote:
--noconfmem
Causes portage to disregard merge records indicating that a config file inside of a CONFIG_PROTECT directory has been merged already. Portage will normally merge those files only once to prevent the user from dealing with the same config multiple times. This flag will cause the file to always be merged.

So, this may be a bug, you should probably pastebin your 'emerge --info'. As I said the config files are either in <category>/<package>/files, or in the nagios tarball, but you could do the following and copy them from the work dir.

Code:
# ebuild /usr/portage/net-analyzer/nagios/nagios-<version>.ebuild compile
# ebuild /usr/portage/net-analyzer/nagios/nagios-<version>.ebuild install
# cp -a /var/tmp/portage/net-analyzer/nagios-<version>/work/etc/nagios /etc/

fxstar ....

I suspect the config files are not in the nagios package but in net-analyzer/nagios-core and/or net-analyzer/nagios-plugins, the former being the metapackage. So, try re-emerging nagios-core with --noconfmem.

Re-emerging nagios-core with --noconfmem solved this issue, many thanks sir.

P.S I'm new to gentoo and everyday I learn something new.

I tend to use a DVCS (Mercurial in my case, since it's very easy to use) to track /etc.
Saves a certain amount of heart-burning.
