Clearly a need for heavy regulation, background checks, and quite possibly a complete ban.

Well, there is no doubt that soccer should be banned. More people have died of boredom waiting for something to happen at a soccer game. _________________ The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.

I'm sure you'll be cheered to know that we don't want to ban everything which might cause accidental death. |

I was actually surprised at how ice hockey is sold to the masses in the US. it is really sold as a violent sport. Keep in mind in canada it has a rich cultural history (and I am not talking out of my ass here. the Richard riot was historically hugely important); the fighting is a small part that I didn't care about until I got to the US. It's in the country's folklore. |

I used to go to Minnesota North Star games as a teenager, back in the early, early 70s. I played hockey in my freshman and sophomore days in HS. I know all about old school ice hockey. _________________ The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.

I've tried to get interested in the NHL a few times, and the tolerance of the fights is off putting. I'm watching to see hockey, not boxing. That they essentially condone it without meaningful penalties demonstrates it is part of "the game." Otherwise an automatic 1 game suspension would go a long way toward preventing the problem. Next offense, 5 game suspension. Third offense, 25 games. Again, kicked out of the league. At least until the issue is solved and it becomes a rare occurrence, then it can be treated comparable to other sports. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

I agree. I don't really understand why this is the case. After living in the US, I had the idea it was to sell it in the US (because it is such a huge focus of the advertising), but I don't know. _________________

they do. But the game isn't sold as being a rough sport or a fighting sport.
I agree though. i too don't care for it. _________________

I never thought of it as being marketing, but you're probably correct. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.
