git version of digikam ebuild available?

I have been playing with digikam recently and have been fiddling with face recognition.

Apparently, digikam 3.1 is quite good at locating faces but recognition of faces is non-existent.

However it appears that in git, the current unreleased source for libkface and digikam have face recognition available for testing.

You could try the KDE overlay with layman.

Tried the kde overlay.

Only app in media-gfx is kflickr

No ebuild for digikam at all.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I decided to try my hand at hacking up an ebuild for digikam and libface, lets see how it goes...

If anyone is interested, and they actually work, I am happy to post them here - basically a rename of the file and changing the source URI.

Attempt failed.
Tried a simple rename of the ebuild, deleting bits that didn't work and failed.

In what way did it fail? Did it fail to build, fail to install, or not produce the desired results once installed? If it failed to build or install, we might be able to help if you provide more information.

It failed to build.
I am not a KDE expert, just a user, so dealing with the build problems is beyond me.
I did not try simply downloading the source as I am disinclined to pollute my portage constructed system with non-portage software.

I never suggested you should build it outside Portage, nor do I think that would be a good idea. Without more information about how it failed to build, there is nothing further I can do for you.

Thanks anyway, as I said, when I tried to knock up my own ebuild, I simply changed the existing ebuild file to version 9999 then changed the URI in the ebuild to point to the GIT repository, as identified here

It would appear that the changes in the build of the GIT version and the ebuild version I chose to base upon, was different enough that I could not simply 'copy/hack' the old ebuild and have it work.

I have taken this 'copy/hack' approach with a couple of other unrelated ebuilds, with some success.

The portage digikam ebuild is quite a small file, I assume it takes advantage of lots of default behaviours in portage, of which I am completely unfamiliar. I know enough to be dangerous (to myself), but not enough to be useful, in this particular case.

Since I made this post, I noticed that 3.2 has been released ~ keyworded but the face recognition code is apparently not due for release till 3.3, at least according to comments in this KDE Bug post
