Shoots dead sister. No biggie.

Stupid parenting.
I got my first BB rifle at age 6, and was taught gun safety. Shot a real rifle and shotgun for the first time when I was 8. _________________ The Future Ain't What It Used To Be

I owned a Savage 223 when I was about 12 years old. Difference?
1) I had no live-in siblings to shoot
2) My dad put it in a safe when we weren't at the range
I find the title of the article most disturbing:
Quote: | Five-year-old Kentucky boy shoots dead sister, 2, with 'my first rifle' he was given as a gift |

I would not buy a gun for my children but if did I would certainly not leave it loaded where they could pick it up. _________________ Your argument is invalid. |

It's just one of those things that just happens.

Cause:
1. Utter lack of safety protocol (round left in chamber).
2. Weapon left unsecured when not in use.
3. Stupid parenting (lack of safety training for the children).
Effect:
1. Dead toddler. |

Same here. I resented having to wait until I was eight to shoot the .22, but I couldn't even hold it pointed at the target until then. By the end of that Summer I had my NRA Sharpshooter (Smallbore) badge, which mainly means I had learned firearm safety and could consistently hit a one-inch circle at 25 yards.
Firearms are not toys, and parent should never leave one where a child can get at it. Firearms should always be cleared and then cleared again by somebody else, after use. For those who don't know, that means making damned sure they are not loaded. In any household with children in it, firearms should be locked, or rendered inoperable (e.g. bolt removed and locked up).
Now, having said all that, this is just Darwin at work again, inhibiting these bad parents from propagating their genetics. No difference between this and backing over your kid in the driveway or leaving them locked in the car on a 95 degree day, except it's over quicker. _________________

That's right. There's no law to stop retarded people breeding in the US. There is natural selection however, so can guns facilitate this with a minimum of fuss and no blame attached to anyone. |

++ I learned to shoot around age 7. I also learned gun safety, and my parents never gave me unsupervised access to the guns or ammo. Irresponsible, shitty parenting. |

The liberal media seems to be full of cracks. No idea how this fell through. I mean, the media is after stories like this, no?
Five year old accidentally fatally shoots 2 year old sister. Clearly, the solution to this is that the sister should have had a gun.
While not insane enough, it was actually the 5 year old's gun (not some adult's gun).
Quote: |
Cumberland County Coroner Gary White told the Lexington Herald-Leader the boy received the .22-caliber rifle as a gift and is used to shooting it. He said the rifle was kept in a corner and the family didn't realize a shell was left inside it. |
