Hello,

I've got USB bluetooth adapter USB-BT211. I got it working just fine, but not used it for a while and have recently found out it stopped working.

lsub does not show anything, hciconfig -a does not show anything.

When I connect it, I get these lines repeating over and over again in the syslog:
Code:
 hub 3-0:1.0: state 7 ports 4 chg 0000 evt 0008
 hub 3-0:1.0: port 3, status 0101, change 0001, 12 Mb/s
 hub 3-0:1.0: debounce: port 3: total 100ms stable 100ms status 0x101
hub 3-0:1.0: port 3 not reset yet, waiting 50ms
usb 3-3: new full-speed USB device number 20 using xhci_hcd
 usb 3-3: udev 20, busnum 3, minor = 275
usb 3-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf3, idProduct=3000
 usb 3-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
 usb 3-3: usb_probe_device
usb 3-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 3-3: Successful Endpoint Configure command
 usb 3-3: adding 3-3:1.0 (config #1, interface 0)
 ath3k 3-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface
 ath3k 3-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id
 hub 3-0:1.0: state 7 ports 4 chg 0000 evt 0008
 hub 3-0:1.0: port 3, status 0100, change 0001, 12 Mb/s
usb 3-3: USB disconnect, device number 20
 usb 3-3: unregistering device
 usb 3-3: unregistering interface 3-3:1.0
usb 3-3: usb_disable_device nuking all URBs
usb 3-3: Successful Endpoint Configure command
 hub 3-0:1.0: debounce: port 3: total 100ms stable 100ms status 0x100

I've managed to dig out some old logs (from time when it was working) and find the corresponding lines. There are a few differences, namely
Code:
usb 3-3: new full-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
 usb 3-3: udev 2, busnum 3, minor = 257

Note the different device number. Furthermore after the debounce line there are additional lines in the old log that I don't show up when I connect the adapter now:
Code:
 hub 3-0:1.0: state 7 ports 4 chg 0000 evt 0008
 hub 3-0:1.0: port 3, status 0101, change 0001, 12 Mb/s
 hub 3-0:1.0: debounce: port 3: total 100ms stable 100ms status 0x101
hub 3-0:1.0: port 3 not reset yet, waiting 50ms
usb 3-3: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
 usb 3-3: udev 3, busnum 3, minor = 258
usb 3-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf3, idProduct=3005
 usb 3-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
 usb 3-3: usb_probe_device
usb 3-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 3-3: Successful Endpoint Configure command
 usb 3-3: adding 3-3:1.0 (config #1, interface 0)
 btusb 3-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface
 btusb 3-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id
 usb 3-3: adding 3-3:1.1 (config #1, interface 1)

I'm not sure what's changed - I did recompile kernel in the meantime but the configuration regarding bluetooth and usb seems fine. For sure there was an update of udev to recent stable (200). Finally, could this be HW issue?

Any suggestions what might be the problem or how to proceed with debugging? Thanks!

From what I was able to google, it seems like the firmware should change the PID of the device to 0cf3:3005, which is then handled by btusb. The logs show that it was working before, but currently after the ath3k is done with it the device comes back again as 0cf3:3000 not 0cf3:3005. I have no idea why, or how to proceed further.

Solved! It turned out it really was HW problem. I've exchanged the adapter today and everything works ok again.
