Seems to be automake-1.13 related - you could downgrade and mask automake-1.13 - that should help to work around the issue. You could also fix the make system (as the errors are very specific).
In the long run I'd say that this incompatibility is most likely an issue for upstream to fix - you should report it as bugs to the XFCE guys (not in Gentoo but the real upstream) |

yep: automake 1.13.1 breaks quite a wide range of packages at the moment, so it's easiest to mask it, remove it and use 1.12.6 for now. it's not only xfce: a bunch of other upstream projects haven't caught up with the new automake yet, so if you want your system to build without problems, downgrade for a while. |

Don't devs try things like automake before letting them in the wild? Yeah, this is ~arch, but come on. I would understand some obscure arcane package failing, but pango? openvpn? ghostscript-gpl? |

This is really the purpose of ~arch target : integration testing.
Don't complaint, ~arch was really unuseable 6-8 years ago
just mask automake:1.13 and watch the tracker
BTW: BIG THANKS for the ebuild maintainers who fix that problem at light speed _________________ Kind regards,

I've been running ~arch since I started with gentoo in 2003... and these things are usually package.masked until most bugs are fixed. Shit, gcc-4.8 is WAY more usable than automake-1.13 (ALL packages in my system were compiled with it and are running fine) and it's still package.masked. |

In my case, GCC-4.8 can not be used because of qtwebkit-4.8.4 crashes (fixed in recent out-of-qt webkit), and one other lib I don't remember. _________________ Kind regards,

Unfortunately, this isn't doing to work for me.
When I mask automake-1.13.1, the problem packages now fail with access violations. Example: Code: | emerge =virtuoso-server-6.1.6

Right now, I can still use the two systems {1 x86 and 1 amd64} for their nominal purposes so I don't really have a hardship there.
My secondary use for these two systems is to test for 'emerge @world" issues before attempting to upgrade my other PCs. In that respect, I'm 'golden' as my other systems are untouched. But I can't go any further with my test PCs until this 'automake-1.13.1' issue is updated everywhere upstream.
It's apparent that for masking of automake-1.13.1 to work for me, I need to rollback some other update but I haven't a clue where to even begin. _________________ People whom think M$ is mediocre, don't know the half of it. |

I've just put this in /etc/portage/bashrc to solve all this automake crap:
Code: | post_src_unpack() {
cd "${S}"
for f in configure.{in,ac}; do
sed -i $f -e 's~AM_CONFIG_HEADER~AC_CONFIG_HEADERS~;/AM_PROG_CC_STDC/d'
done
} |
with that I compiled the 10 or so remaining packages that fail to build with aclocal errors.
(BTW, don't use that for ALL packages, some will fail. Just use it temporarily for packages that fail with automake 1.13.) |

Just for your information: a downgrade to the lastest automake version fixed it for me (automake-1.12.6).
Thanks! |

Alternate way is to configuring default automake. For example:
echo ': ${WANT_AUTOMAKE:=1.12}' >>/etc/portage/bashrc
emerge -1 "<sys-devel/automake-1.13" |
