I just notice that Firefox-17.0.4 has a problem "print to file" to a different directory than home.

When I select print to file (pdf) and select different directory than "/home/joseph" it still print to my home directory.
Can anybody confirm it?

Hi Joseph_sys,
I've checked this for Firefox-17.0.5 and every thing is working as expected.
Perhaps it is a little bug of the previous version.
Best

I just upgraded to Firefox-17.0.5 and every text I print to "pdf" file goes to my /home/joseph/ folder not the one I selected.

I didn't even know how to make a PDF file this way until I saw this post.

I can say that I now know how to make the PDF file and was able to send a file to the folder that I selected other then /home/don I was able to send it to /home/don/easy.

I also have Firefox-17.0.5

So must be something that is not working just for you.

Well, all my system are effected this way.
- Firefox 17.0.5 - can not print "pdf" file to any other folder except my home directory
- meld will not start as user
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/meld", line 154, in <module>
    main()
  File "/usr/bin/meld", line 136, in main
    import meld.meldapp
  File "/usr/lib64/meld/meld/meldapp.py", line 218, in <module>
    import filediff
  File "/usr/lib64/meld/meld/filediff.py", line 60, in <module>
    process_pool = multiprocessing.Pool(None, init_worker, maxtasksperchild=1)
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/__init__.py", line 232, in Pool
    return Pool(processes, initializer, initargs, maxtasksperchild)
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/pool.py", line 115, in __init__
    self._setup_queues()
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/pool.py", line 210, in _setup_queues
    self._inqueue = SimpleQueue()
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/queues.py", line 352, in __init__
    self._rlock = Lock()
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/synchronize.py", line 147, in __init__
    SemLock.__init__(self, SEMAPHORE, 1, 1)
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/multiprocessing/synchronize.py", line 75, in __init__
    sl = self._semlock = _multiprocessing.SemLock(kind, value, maxvalue)
OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied

- evince will not print to PDF file
Code:
Error printing - Operation not supported
(evince:18927): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()

All my system are effected AMD64 and x86 and the problem is I don't even know where to look.

Another strange things I've noticed, when I go to Firefox - Print to File: the "Save in Folder" is empty before it used to be by default "joseph"

? Even if you click on it ? Mine is empty until I click on it then I can select .

1. Don
2. Desktop
3. File System
4. Backup partition 1
5. Backup partition 2
6. Other

I can select any of them and by selecting ( other ) I can move throw the folders to the one that I want.

I don't know if this tells you anything or not and don't have any idea what to tell you to look for other wise.

After recent upgrade that field "Save in Folder" is empty as well; but my two other system (not upgraded yet) showing "user_name" directory as default.

I'm looking for some kind or relation as I have some problem with printing to pdf files.

SOLVED!

The problem is caused by: x11-libs/gtk+-2.24.16
I just downgrade to x11-libs/gtk+-2.24.12 and all my systems are working perfectly.
