|
Hi, I have a problem with playing video in Hi resoulution on may Dell latitude e6400. Playin in SD 576 is ok. If I play in 1920x1080i, the video in player VLC or other player is freezing and I must stop it. I using own kernel, dont using genkernel. In windows is all OK. CPUfrequtils is set to conservative, If I change to performance that is same, only cpu is full making.
My configuration is:

xHypnos,
One problem at a time - lets work on the video.
Make friends with wgetpaste and post your dmesg output and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
They are too big to fit in a forums post. _________________ Regards,

xHypnos,
You have the advantage - you can read the site, I can't.
Please do Code: | dmesg | wgetpaste
wgetpaste /var/log/Xorg.0.log | and post the two URLs you get back.
That way nobody has to download anything - its just two text files in your web browser. _________________ Regards,

OK, sorry, i dont know this function, thanks for your tip.
here:
localhost ~ # dmesg | wgetpaste
Your paste can be seen here: http://bpaste.net/show/91586/
localhost ~ # wgetpaste /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Your paste can be seen here: http://bpaste.net/show/91587/ |

xHypnos,
There is nothing video related wrong there.
You dmesg says Code: | [ 0.000000] 2648MB HIGHMEM available.
[ 0.000000] 887MB LOWMEM available. | what shows you have 4G RAM (or more) fitted and are losing about 512Mb, plus anything over 4G as you have a 32 bit install.
While thats interesting, its not your issue.
What does Code: | eselect opengl list | show?
What about the output of
Which media player are you using? _________________ Regards,

Hei, this is maybe problem, I have in notebook 4 GB ram.
I must rework all system to 64bit?.
I used VLC player.

xHypnos,
There is no need to move to a 64 bit install. There is no migration path from 32 bit to 64 bit. If you really want to do that, its a complete reinstall.
It won't fix your problem either.
Your make.conf file contains Code: | CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe" | That tells gcc to make code that will run on a PentiumPro CPU. It was the first of the i686 class, without any multi media instructions or Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions. These newer instructions are aimed at multimedia applications, like playing video
You have a much newer CPU, so you should take advantage of these new instructions.
Provided you do not use distcc, if you don't know what that is, you don't use it, set -march=native in place of -march=i686 in your CFLAGS.
This tells gcc to build code for the host its running on.
media-video/vlc has optimised code sections that can be enabled by the USE flags mmx and sse. Only add these flags to your USE if they also appear in your /proc/cpuinfo FLAGS, which lists your CPUs capabilities. There are others that you will have too but vlc will not uses them. Its libraries may, so there may be scope for further improvements.
Post your /prc/cpuinfo if you want me to pick out the FLAGS then have matching USE setting.
Do this before the next step, or you will have to rebuild again.
After the changes, run to rebuild vlc and everything it depends on with your new settings.
If you prefer to rebuild your entire system however, only multimedia applications an libraries will be noticably affected. _________________ Regards,

Ok, thanks for your answer, I change CFLAGS to native, and I must recompile 457 package.
/proc/cpuinfo
command not found
Thanks, maybe I install new system with 64bit support. My mistake, I must next time read manual info from intel site for my CPU.
Thank you!!!!! |

xHypnos,
/proc/cpuinfo is the name of a file. You read it with cat or less or some other pager. _________________ Regards,

xHypnos,
Code: | flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts aperfmperf pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx smx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm sse4_1 xsave lahf_lm ida dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority | These flags indicate the capabilities of your CPU. They are mostly not very interesting but a few indicate the presence of instruction set extensions.
These are mmx sse sse2 ssse3 sse4_1. These have corresponding USE flags, which select specially optimised sections of code that use these instruction set extensions.
To find out what they do, read the comments provided in ufed. Thate Use Flag EDitor
Add the following to your USE flags in make.conf Code: | mmx sse sse2 ssse3 sse4_1 | This will only help a small number of packages but they are mostly multimedia packages.
You do not need to rebuild everything in the probably less than 10 packages but I don't know how to tell you to identify the critical ones. _________________ Regards,

One can also use --newuse (or -N) option to force rebuilding of packages that can use new flags.
Try
emerge -p --newuse --deep --update world
to see what shall be updated. |

Ok thank you NeddySeagoon and v_andal, it is OK, HD video playing without freezing.
I used emerge -avuDN @world for recompile package.
I hope that is right, I dont understand what doing
emerge -avuDN @world /////// Yes/no update change?
emerge -p --newuse --deep --update world ///////Only change update?
emerge -vuD --newuse world /////Update all system?
emerge -e world //////rebuild system?
and etc.
.
.
On week I reinstall all system to 64bit, when I bought notebook, operation system was 32bit Windows Vista, therefore I mistake and I install 32bit gentoo. I must more read for next time. I need full alocated memory of 4 GB, maybe CPU is not full function in 32bit mode. |

xHypnos,
-a == --ask
-v == --verbose
-u == --update
-D == --deep
-N == --newuse
@world == consider everything in the world set.
--ask works out what to do and allows you to check it over before anything id done. It saves recalculating the dependency tree if you had used --pretend and you wanted to go ahead.
--verbose lists the currently installed version, the new version and the USE flag settings.
--update asks portage to update your system
--deep asks portage to update anything that is a dependency of a package to be updated
--newuse tells portage to consider as updates oackages that have changed USE flags
@world is the package list of all the packages you have explicitly named to be installed.
You can work out what the other commands do now. _________________ Regards,
