|
|
Hello
I have sys-fs/udev-197-r3 and linux-3.7.4 installed, I have removed 70-persistent-net.rules from /etc/udev/rules.d/ which is empty.
The names in /sys/class/net when I looked at them were enp4s2 and wlp3s0. About every other boot these change to enp5s2 and wlp4s0 and I get a message saying the kernel module hasn't been loaded...
As a temporary solution I have duplicated the lines in net to cover the alternative names ... but these are supposed not to change from boot to boot...
The kernel is compiled with both CONFIG_DEVTMPFS=y and CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT=y.
I don't know if emerge --info or /proc/config.gz is going to be a help but I will provide them (or other stuff) on request.
Thanks for any help, pointers,

Thank you for your reply.
The link you have given me says
Quote: | Come again, what good does this do?
With this new scheme you now get:
Stable interface names across reboots |
and that is not what I am getting.
On a boot from cold I get Code: | ls -alFs /sys/class/net
total 0
0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Apr 15 10:33 ./
0 drwxr-xr-x 32 root root 0 Apr 15 10:33 ../
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 15 10:33 enp5s2 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.4/0000:05:02.0/net/enp5s2/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 15 10:33 lo -> ../../devices/virtual/net/lo/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 15 10:33 sit0 -> ../../devices/virtual/net/sit0/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Apr 15 10:34 wlp4s0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.0/0000:04:00.0/net/wlp4s0/
|
on rebooting (a warm reboot) I get Code: | total 0
0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 3 18:27 ./
0 drwxr-xr-x 32 root root 0 Feb 3 18:27 ../
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 3 18:27 enp4s2 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.4/0000:04:02.0/net/enp4s2/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 3 18:27 lo -> ../../devices/virtual/net/lo/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 3 18:27 sit0 -> ../../devices/virtual/net/sit0/
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 3 18:28 wlp3s0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.0/0000:03:00.0/net/wlp3s0/

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Duplicate Threads in favor of predictable network interface names.
