This is an article about the amount of memory used by a number of window managers and desktop environments. I am not sure how good the numbers are for us, since they are doing it on Ubuntu.

It seems they are comparing windowmanagers and desktop environments which is kind of hard to compare as they are different things. A desktop environment has a window manager, so if you're comparing just a window manager versus a desktop environment, of course the DE will use more RAM!

It's like asking fvwm to graphically open a directory and manipulate its contents... it can't! Need a third party program to do this...

What would be interesting is also seeing Gnome2 on the list... I've seen it load in 128MB or so with change to spare after a fresh boot, but of course this is Gentoo, so apples and oranges here.

Also a lot of things are involved with memory consumption, the desktop environment is only one piece. The application that you're actually using also needs to be accounted for... though with full desktop environments, it may already include the application you need to use...

(then again, if someone really wanted to compare against Android or Maemo or something like that...)

All those choices but I'd rather have Kde3.5 back.
