Hi!
I wonder how it would be possible to install Grub (legacy) onto a machine that probably only runs Windows...
Of course on a seperate ext2/3/4 partition for convenience... Suggestions welcome...
I want to do this to extract the Acronis True Image kernel onto that partition too and have an option for recovery...

Install grub4dos to the windows partition, chainload it from the windows bootloader.

I saw that, but I'd rather use a dedicated Linux partition... Also I think it will be easier for me to setup the linux version...

I'd fetch Systemrescuecd install it on an USB thumb drive then setup a partition for whatever you want to install on it, install grub and you're done.

Tolstoi: Yeah, that's what I thought of. But just setting grub up via command line under sysrescd isn't enough, is it? I think it expects files under /boot. I have no idea if there's a binary for that?

I think it only needs a boot directory for the configuration files and not a proper boot directory for a fully working linux system. So if you set up a small ext2 partition after your Windows partition, create a boot folder where grub can install its files, that should do. But I'm just guessing here and it should only work with grub legacy and not with grub2.
