|
|
Hi, I am trying to install grub, so i type grub-install /dev/sda
It returns: The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly
My grub.conf is 100% fine. It's only a grub reinstallation after moving / partition using partition manager. The file /boot/grub/stage1 exist.
Should I post something more? Please help. |

Try running grub from command line and enter:
Code: |
root (hd0,0) # or whatever partition the stage{1,2} files are
setup (hd0)
|
If all went well, GRUB will report finding its files in /boot/grub. So type "quit" to quit the grub shell and that's all to it. |

Your partition manager may have corrupted the files that grub needs.
Just boot with a LiveCD, chroot, and re-emerge grub. Then you should be able to install it without errors. |

I am trying to boot a fresh gentoo install. its /boot is in / on sda3. grub-install returns stage1 read incorrectly.
would the fact that sda3 is a LVM(id:8e) have anything to do with the problem? _________________

mayhew,
You may not put /boot inside LVM if you use grub1 as it won't boot, even it it installs.
Grub2 is reported to work. _________________ Regards,
