I am installing Gentoo in VirtualBox with a Windows XP host. My CPU is 64-bit, however the computer was shipped with 32-bit Windows. I do not know whether to configure the kernel simply for an Athlon processor or an Athlon64 processor. Please reply in noob-friendly terms. _________________ What sound does a penguin make, anyway? |

As your host OS is 32bit you will not be able to run 64bit guests. |

Thanks, but I am still confused as to whether I should configure the kernel as having a 64-bit processor or a 32-bit processor.
Thanks. _________________ What sound does a penguin make, anyway? |

Your OS does see a 32 bits machine.... You won't be able to use anything 64 bits even if the hardware is 64 bit...
Solution: Install a real 64 bit linux OS on your machine and run XP in a virtual machine...
