I got something strange going on in my computer. This started few days ago. I have some type of process eating up cpu time. But cpu goes up to 100% and hard drives are constantly searching for something, or at least updating something. This is not normal. I do not think it is the search program "locate" updating it self. If it is. It clearly has a bug that is creating this.
This did just happen few moments ago. Started at 03:00 CEST and continued for about 14 mins until I did end it with a hard reboot. I was not able to do anything while this progress was working. Not even close down Chromium browser window or other programs that I am always running.
I want to prevent this from happening again. But I am not sure where to look at present time.
Thanks for the help. |

install iotop and htop, see whatever take IO and maybe CPU, if the process abuse disk, then it should have fairly high iowait time so 'cpu' usage should be big too. |
