You can't have read/write access to a linux partition from windows, I know there is a program that can read ext2 filesystems from windows, but thats it. |

about the only way it could be done is with UMSDOS on a fat partition, but it would be very ineffecient. It's much easier to store shared files on a separate fat partition. |

For a partition that you want to just share, you could use VFAT. You could technically even install Linux on it; however, it would not be a good idea in general. If you use it to share data between the two systems, you should be OK. |

I just used vfat (fat32 to windows) for my windows partition. I keep all of my mp3's etc on that partition as i can read and write to it. If i have something on my linux partition on one of the rare cases I am in windows, I use "explore2fs" (type it in google for the website). It can read, and it has a checkbox for write, BUT if you care about your data at all its probably not a good idea to use that feature. _________________ --

Hmmm ntfs is supposed to be way better than fat32 but write access is still experimental... Just in case you want to give it a shot. _________________ Hello. |

I'd recommend staying far, far away from writing to NTFS partitions unless you're interested in sacrificing your mp3 partition in the name of Linux driver development. The NTFS FAQ is rather adamant about that, and you'll probably want to keep tabs on Kernel Traffic (or the LKML if you're brave) to keep up-to-date on what's going on with the drivers. Read access seems to be fine, though. I use that often. |
