Hopefully the company loses a lot of money from bad publicity, since the law has long past favored corporations over people.
The Hyper-connected Age might turn the tables, slightly. Nah, corporations are too valuable to let people start having rights. _________________ Bullied into silence. |

Okay, how many of you, you think, are going to be fired if your employer finds out about OTW.

If you didn't get fired for crashing into a sacred cow in India. What would they fire you for? _________________

The whole thing was ridiculous. A guy makes a dumb joke to a friend and gets fired because a retarded cunt overheards it and makes a fuss about it? What The Fuck.
She deserves all that has been happening to her. Fucking feminazis... |

Thats the problem atm in US employment, sexism is taken /really/ seriously. Unfortunately it isn't for the greater good of equality but for the bottom line of the company. A sexual harassment suit can run into billions of dollars.
A couple of colleagues from a sister site in Phoenix were kind of taken aback by some of the stuff we said (which tbf were really really tame by british standards, REALLY tame to what we usually come out with).
They stated if any of them came out with that they would be fired immediately _________________ The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter

If people are representing their company at a conference and behave like junior high school students then they get what they deserve. There's a time and a place for manly pursuits, it's called the pub and the time for it is when you are there, not when you are being paid to be professional. Idiots.
None of the people in this article acted in a professional manner and so they were relieved of the burden of their profession. Now they can go ahead and act like the waste of space they proved themselves to be, but without burdening their employer with their moronic attitudes. |

Hmmm, my impression is that it is a little bit more lax here, but not much more. In any case, my guess is that most people cruise along with nothing and then you read about this story.
Frankly, from what I can tell, it's pretty easy to avoid saying anything stupid, so I don't. But I really don't know what you could say that I would consider appropriate, but could get you fired. But as sikpuppy said, the place for that is in the pub. |

She's a moron. So she thought those guys were breaking the code of conduct, so she could break it herself as well.
Also, it seems like she's a hypocrite. https://twitter.com/adriarichards/statuses/312265091791847425 _________________ we are microsoft, lower your firewalls and surrender your pc's. we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. your culture will adapt and service us. resistance is futile. |

It depends. I think that if two guys are having a private conversation and she listened in, that's one thing. But if they intentionally made remarks within earshot (perhaps even directed at her), certainly that's not a good thing (whether grounds for dismissal or not is a different story). |

All sources point to a private conversation she listened in on. Even if it was sexually tinted, she herself made a similar remark in a bigger venue recently. It's hard to defend getting up in arms to protest such behavior if she does it herself too.
All would've been fine if she hadn't publicly posted that photo, but had shown it privately to the conference organizers. Regardless of whether the guys' remarks were inappropriate or not, it would've been handled. No one would have lost their jobs, the guys would've apologized and that would have been that. Instead she chose to use the biggest venue available to post her accusation. _________________ we are microsoft, lower your firewalls and surrender your pc's. we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. your culture will adapt and service us. resistance is futile. |

It's sexism + work context that's the problem. If you are referring to what you posted, I don't see how that is sexist.

I just love US American zero tolerance policies. Every single one of them is the result of years of failures. Makes such a nice society. |

she's a hypocrite and a bitch. she deserves all the bullshit that she gets.
SHE was eavesdropping on their conversation. there were multiple adult actions she could have taken... ignore it, talk to the guys directly, report it to the pycon operators. INSTEAD, she immediately took it to the internet to bitch about them.
just days before, she publicly made dick jokes on her twitter feed.
as it all started to blow up, she publicly tweeted that sendgrid had her back, when she supposedly hadn't even checked. SHE created drama where there was none, and then brought that drama down onto the company.
seeing this bullshit unfold, anonymous started ddos'ing sendgrid and none of their customers could use the service. they lost multiple clients in response to the DDOS.
sendgrid's only error was not firing her before this shit happened. she acts like a 2 year old. |
