how can I install chrome on gentoo?
can someone advice pls?
localhost chrome # emerge -uav chromium
* IMPORTANT: 6 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.

This means chromium depends on libxml2 built with the icu use flag.
Do:
Code: | nano -w /etc/portage/package.use |
Add the following line:
dev-libs/libxml2 icu
Save the file. Then try to emerge chromium.

| That's the biggest problem right there. You'll have endless problems emerging new packages on a system this out of date. In fact, this has reached the threshold that many people would recommend a reinstall as being easier than the update. I'd struggle through it, if I were you, though.

No, updating you system will also help. You remember those steps from the Working with Gentoo section of the Handbook, right?
However, the longer you let a Gentoo installation get out of date, the more the update process punishes you. If you get started and the problems (and there will be problems) look like they're more than you want to handle, a re-install is another option.
