Somewhere along the way my system got hosed to the point that gnome-shell has become unusable, it freezes when I try to do anything. Currently surviving on life support (LXDE) but really need to get this fixed. I did try to downgrade some updates that I suspected would fix it but that didn't help. First thing that broke was the Chromium browser, thought a restart might fix it and then the gnome-shell issues started. Was able to get a masked 27.x version of Chromium to run fine, but the previous version was all aw-snap even after rebuilding it.
I need some assistance trouble-shooting this issue. I have deleted my gnome configuration hoping that maybe an extension or some incompatible setting would ameliorate the problem but so far no success.

Hey Darkphader
Is it possible...
Quote: | JS LOG: GNOME Shell started at Wed Mar 20 2013 17:22:29 GMT-0400 (EDT)
JS LOG: Extension "user-theme@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com" had error: Error: extension is not compatible with current GNOME Shell and/or GJS version |
This theme could be the root of the problem?
Try removing the theme and see if that helps.
Cheers. _________________ Whatever you do, do it properly! |

Thanks,
Removed all of the gnome settings and get the default gnome desktop for a second before it crashes putting this in .gnomerc-errors: Code: | Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

The Chromium issue was a red herring - a separate problem. I had at one time unmasked V8 and Chromium, but ended up removing the unmask of Chromium which was fine for a long time but the unmasked V8 finally got to the point where it didn't work with the ~ version of Chromium, which is why 27.x worked but 26.x did not. Once I downgraded V8 and recompiled Chromium-26.x it was fine. However still struggling with gnome-shell. _________________ WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Grep |

Beginning to look like a spidermonkey issue.
Found this in /var/log/messages: Code: | Mar 23 14:35:41 sartre kernel: [13956.600653] gnome-shell[14823]: segfault at 30 ip 00007f5fab773ff0 sp 00007fffee18c828 error 4 in libmozjs185.so.1.0.0[7f5fab729000+30f000]

However, remerging spidermonkey did not solve the issue. _________________ WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Grep |
