hi,

I have plasma-desktop keep on crashing.
I did an update this morning after a week of being away from office.
Here are the paste bin :
output : http://pastebin.com/VSFs1jDx
stack trace : http://pastebin.com/kwaZMbKP

I had troubles starting X11 that were fixed by recompiling intel drivers and evdev but then I could not fix plasma-desktop crash.
BTW I have also another pb for a long time qlist/q is segfaulting.

I found some but that look related to compile options, I change from O2 to Os in compilation flag (/etc/make.conf) and recompile plasma but nothing better.

any hint ?

I'm having a very similar error, after a world update (including x11 drivers).

My stack trace: http://pastebin.com/1xhYrJVE

I've tried rebuilding qtcore and qtgui, and running revdep-rebuild, with no positive results.

More info:

I can start a X session without KDE or Plasma, and then run KDE applications without problems, so the problem seems to be just in Plasma.

Also, I have created a new user and with this user and the default settings, the error is just the same so, if it's a problem with some widget or application, it must be one of the default ones.

I keep trying.

Would be good to know which kde/qt[core,gui,declarative]-versions you have installed.
But I assume it's stable-qt and testing-kde, so installing qtcore-4.8.4-r4 should be the solution.

My versions are 4.10.1:4 for KDE packages and 4.8.4-r2 for Qt packages.

I have traced the error, and I have just found that the cause of the problem (at least in my case) is the "system tray" plugin.

With a text editor, I have removed the references to this plugin from ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and now the plasma desktop works fine (without system tray, though).

From this point, adding a new system tray to a panel (or creating an empty panel and adding a system tray) restarts the desktop without the system tray. There is no crash now, but the system tray cannot be added.

I have tried rebuilding kde-base/ksystraycmd, with no luck.

Yeah, that's why I said "install qtcore-4.8.4-r4" - has a fix for your issue!

Yeah, franzf. Upgrading to qtcore-4.8.4-r4 solved the problem. Thanks a lot!

Akaoni, can you confirm that this solution works for you to mark this issue as solved?

Hi,

I force update to r4 and now plasma is not crashing.
However it looks like I have lost some plasma settings and applications (like icon only task manager).
So the segv problem is solved but why my system became unstable is not clear.

Web report nothing for versions of qtcore : http://packages.gentoo.org/package/dev-qt/qtcore.
checking with equery dont help more :
Quote:
root@gentoox64 portage # equery list -p -o qtcore
* Searching for qtcore ...
[-P-] [ ] dev-qt/qtcore-4.8.4-r2:4
[IP-] [ ] dev-qt/qtcore-4.8.4-r4:4

I am using KDE on unstable branch and I force qtcore version for upgrade :
Quote:

kde-base/* ~amd64
x11-libs/* ~amd64
x11-proto/* ~amd64
x11-base/* ~amd64
...
>=dev-qt/qtcore-4.8.4-r4

I may have some wrong setting there.
