Help! I Portage can't emerge itself anymore..

I can still build everything else, but when I try to emerge protage itself, it fails. I think the console output below says it all:

What does eselect python list return :?: If it's not set to python2.7, set it and try again.

Mine shows the same and it runs fine

I suspect you will have to do a manual rescue of portage if you are unable to emerge portage.

Yup, that fixed it. Now, if only I understood how it got corrupted..
