It's been a while since I've updated world. Far too long, so of course there are now a ton of packages to rebuild, and a few are conflicting.
Specifically, I've got:

The only other output I see from emerge is some changing use flags and a list of a couple hundred packages it wants to update. The last package is the only one highlighted in red:

| Please provide the output of emerge --info. Based on the limited information shown, it looks to me like Portage is unwilling or unable to upgrade your SELinux policy, and cannot install a new udev until that policy is upgraded. |

just goes the --nodeps way, less pain. emerge -1 --nodeps udev selinux-base-2.20120725
Once done with nodeps rerun without it to have all dependencies met. |

What it's complaining about now appears to be sys-apps/kmod. But, that will probably fail too. If i remember correctly It replaced module-init-tools.
One thing that confuses me is you're having these problems with sec-policy/selinux-base , yet I don't see where you have it enabled e.g the selinux profile or selinux use flags 
Did you have it set and later change it

No. I don't need this to be a hardened machine, so I never bothered turning on any selinux stuff. I assumed something dragged it in as a dependency, but it is odd that I don't have it turned on in use flags.
Indeed, kmod failed to install. Do I want to uninstall module-init-tools to make room for it? |

Does an emerge --depclean -a list the selinux packages If it does, then unmerging them will help considerably.

Do they show up in your world with qlist -I |grep "awk\|busybox"
If not emerge --noreplace virtual/awk && emerge --noreplace sys-apps/busybox or just try to emerge them.
To determine what's pulling selinux emerge -pv --depclean sec-policy/selinux-base sec-policy/selinux-base-policy

Alright, unmerged the four selinux packages, but emerge still errors out complaining that awk and busybox aren't installed.
So I went ahead and emerged those two packages, then ran emerge --depclean. Looks like it removed 33 packages or so.

revdep returning your system is consistent is a good sign - it didn't find any broken dependencies so things are getting cleaned up 
Now try to emerge sys-apps/kmod. It might conflict with sys-apps/module-init-tools. If that's the case you can unmerge sys-apps/module-init-tools

Kmod installed perfectly, when I go back to updating world it says there are only two blocked packages now, and neither are marked 'unsatisfied'.
Thanks for the help everyone! I'll start the main update process this weekend, I'll probably need the laptop tomorrow. |
