Since this morning (after spending yesterday on updating to kde 4.10.1) I get this when I want to update my system:
Code: | # emerge world -uDnav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:
x11-proto/inputproto:0
(x11-proto/inputproto-2.3::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
>=x11-proto/inputproto-2.2.99.1[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?] required by (x11-libs/libXi-1.7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
(x11-proto/inputproto-2.2-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
x11-proto/inputproto[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?] required by (x11-libs/libXtst-1.2.1-r1::gentoo, installed)
x11-proto/inputproto[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?] required by (x11-libs/libX11-1.5.0-r1::gentoo, installed)
>=x11-proto/inputproto-2.1.99.6[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?] required by (x11-libs/libXi-1.6.2-r1::gentoo, installed)
x11-libs/libXi:0
(x11-libs/libXi-1.7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
(no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)
(x11-libs/libXi-1.6.2-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
x11-libs/libXi[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?] required by (x11-libs/libXtst-1.2.1-r1::gentoo, installed)
net-libs/telepathy-farstream:0
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6.0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
(no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.4.0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
<net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6 required by (net-im/ktp-call-ui-0.5.2::gentoo, installed)
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Teegrins, Q-collective!
I'm pretty bad at reading these myself, and the more I try, the more I'm confuddled, methinks!
In any case, what I would try, is firstly re-sync just to be sure there wasn't something funny that slipped in to the tree you got into, and then, if all remains the same, try to emerge one of those packages alone. There's probably something obvious I'm missing right now, being tired and all... yeah, that's my excuse, but that's what I'd try to simplify it a bit at least.
Whenever I had some weird blocks myself, I'd often emerge -C them, with a sledge hammer. Of course, due care is to be had with the packages in question when going that route. ^^;
I'll look into it more in a bit, but I might bet someone else will crack it before I'm done. _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Ok, after updating some config files and unmerging some packages I get a much cleaner, yet still problematic, result:
Code: | # emerge world -uDnav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "x11-proto/inputproto[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?]".

Hrm, what happens if you
Code: | emerge -pv x11-proto/inputproto |
?
Should probably see something like:
Code: | [ebuild R ] x11-proto/inputproto-2.3 ABI_X86="(64) (-32) (-x32)" 0 kB |
Also, just a hunch, but did you change to the new 13-profile that fell upon us not so long ago? _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Yes, correct. After installing it however I see the same issue though?

I'm currently on default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde
But good thinking, for a moment I thought I forgot about it |

After getting a fast reply for posting my emerge --info I got my hopes up on solving this quickly. But it seems that it was just some kind of delaying measure because after posting it we've progressed another full day...
Anyone else have an idea? |

After a suggestion of someone on the #gentoo irc chat to unmerge the listed packages...
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libX11-1.5.0-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXi-1.7" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "media-libs/libsdl-2.0.0_pre6940::steam-overlay[X]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "media-libs/libmpeg2-0.5.1-r1[sdl]" [installed])
(dependency required by "media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2dec-0.10.19" [installed])
(dependency required by "media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-0.10-r8[dvd,mpeg,-vcd]" [installed])
(dependency required by "media-libs/phonon-gstreamer-4.6.3" [installed])
(dependency required by "media-libs/phonon-4.6.0-r1[gstreamer]" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-core-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-widgets-4.10.1" [installed]) |
... I simply got more packages listed:
Code: | emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "x11-proto/inputproto[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?]".
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libX11-1.5.0-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXcomposite-0.4.4-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "net-im/ktp-contact")
(dependency required by "net-im/kde-telepathy-meta-0.5.2" [installed]) |
... Which even prompted more packages after I unmerged those:
Code: | # emerge world -uDnav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "x11-libs/libX11[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?]".
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXfixes-5.0-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXcomposite-0.4.4-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdeplasma-addons-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument]) |
So, instead of completely breaking my system, I manually re-merged them and now I get:
Code: | # emerge world -uDNav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/libX11[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/libXft-2.3.1-r1::gentoo (Change USE: -abi_x86_32)
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXft-2.3.1-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-core-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-widgets-4.10.1" [installed]) |
So, I added the USE flag -abi_x86_32 to x11-libs/libXft, as requested, in my /etc/portage/package.use:
Code: | # emerge world -uDNav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/libX11[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/libXft-2.3.1-r1::gentoo (Change USE: -abi_x86_32)
(dependency required by "x11-libs/libXft-2.3.1-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-core-4.10.1" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/nepomuk-widgets-4.10.1" [installed]) |
It remains the same? |

Ok, I solved the x11-libs/libXft issue by unmerging and remerging it.
Then I got:
Code: | # emerge world -uDNav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:
net-libs/telepathy-farstream:0
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6.0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
(no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.4.0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
<net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6 required by (net-im/ktp-call-ui-0.5.2::gentoo, installed)
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/libXext[abi_x86_32]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/libXext-1.3.1::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
- x11-libs/libXext-1.3.0::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
- x11-libs/libXext-1.2.0::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
(dependency required by "app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-20130224-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "net-im/skype-4.1.0.20" [installed])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument]) |
So I unmerged net-libs/telepathy-farstream and x11-libs/libXext and ran world update again, got the same issue with x11-libs/libXrandr:
Code: | # emerge world -uDNav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:
net-libs/telepathy-farstream:0
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6.0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
(no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)
(net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.4.0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
<net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6 required by (net-im/ktp-call-ui-0.5.2::gentoo, installed)
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can

the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/libXrandr[abi_x86_32]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/libXrandr-1.4.0::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
- x11-libs/libXrandr-1.3.2::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
- x11-libs/libXrandr-1.3.1::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
(dependency required by "app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-20130224-r1" [installed])
(dependency required by "net-im/skype-4.1.0.20" [installed])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument]) |
I solved those issues by remerging those packages with the abi_x86_32 USE flag in package.use.
To make a long story short, I got the same issue then with, consecutively:
- x11-libs/libXxf86vm
- x11-libs/libXpm
- x11-libs/libICE
- x11-libs/libXrandr
- x11-libs/libXaw
- x11-libs/libXcursor
- x11-libs/libXaw (yes, again)
- x11-libs/libXpm (again)
- x11-libs/libXp
- x11-libs/libXft (what? yes!)
- x11-libs/libXt
- x11-libs/libICE (why not...)
- x11-libs/libXdamage
- x11-libs/libXdamage (uhu)
- x11-libs/libpciaccess
- x11-libs/libpciaccess
- x11-libs/libXcursor
- x11-libs/libXcursor
After that I kinda lost my temper with it and unmerged and remerged the rest of X:
Code: | emerge media-libs/libsdl x11-proto/xf86dgaproto media-libs/freetype x11-proto/printproto media-libs/fontconfig x11-libs/libXvMC x11-libs/libXxf86dga x11-libs/libvdpau x11-libs/libXinerama x11-proto/xineramaproto x11-proto/fixesproto x11-proto/compositeproto x11-proto/videoproto x11-proto/recordproto x11-proto/damageproto x11-libs/libXrender x11-proto/renderproto 11-libs/libXtst x11-proto/randrproto x11-proto/scrnsaverproto x11-libs/libXv x11-libs/libXi x11-libs/libXScrnSaver x11-libs/libXcomposite x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto x11-proto/xproto x11-libs/libSM x11-libs/libXdmcp x11-proto/inputproto x11-proto/kbproto x11-libs/libXmu dev-libs/libpthread-stubs x11-proto/xextproto x11-libs/libX11 x11-proto/xf86bigfontproto x11-libs/libXfixes x11-libs/libXau x11-libs/libxcb x11-proto/xcb-proto -C
emerge media-libs/libsdl x11-proto/xf86dgaproto media-libs/freetype x11-proto/printproto media-libs/fontconfig x11-libs/libXvMC x11-libs/libXxf86dga x11-libs/libvdpau x11-libs/libXinerama x11-proto/xineramaproto x11-proto/fixesproto x11-proto/compositeproto x11-proto/videoproto x11-proto/recordproto x11-proto/damageproto x11-libs/libXrender x11-proto/renderproto x11-libs/libXtst x11-proto/randrproto x11-proto/scrnsaverproto x11-libs/libXv x11-libs/libXi x11-libs/libXScrnSaver x11-libs/libXcomposite x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto x11-proto/xproto x11-libs/libSM x11-libs/libXdmcp x11-proto/inputproto x11-proto/kbproto x11-libs/libXmu dev-libs/libpthread-stubs x11-proto/xextproto x11-libs/libX11 x11-proto/xf86bigfontproto x11-libs/libXfixes x11-libs/libXau x11-libs/libxcb x11-proto/xcb-proto -1v |
Afterwards:
- x11-libs/libXi
- x11-libs/libXcomposite
- x11-libs/libXtst
And this is where I stopped caring... It just keeps going on. My current state is that x11-libs/libXScrnSaver needs to be rebuild:
Code: | # emerge world -uDNav
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled

<net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6 required by (net-im/ktp-call-ui-0.5.2::gentoo, installed)
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also

page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Running emerge world -uDNpv several times (note: NOT building anything) gives me a different X11 package each time.
The hell? |

Stuck on this too. I did even remove X11 overlay and tried to downgrade X to latest stable. I'm afraid that i hose the whole system if some elegant solution don't come up.... :-( |

Interesting, it may be an overlay issue then. What overlays do you run?
I have:
Code: | # layman -l
* elementary [Git ] (git://github.com/pimvullers/elementary.git)
* nektoo [Mercurial ] (https://bitbucket.org/neko259/nektoo)
* sabayon [Git ] (git://git.sabayon.org/projects/overlays/for-gentoo.git)
* steam [Git ] (git://github.com/anyc/steam-overlay.git)
* sunrise [Git ] (git://git.overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise-reviewed.git) |

i have used few years X11 overlay only, mainly because i want to use latest mesa/libdrm etc for my radeon 5770. One small notice is that this is really old gentoo installation, i turned the no-multilib profile to multilib few years back. |

eh ://
It seems that i have similar problem :/
I use two overlays:
Code: | * alice [Subversion] (http://alice-gentoo.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/alice )
* science [Git ] (git://git.overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sci.git )
|
In my case the same happenss and i get this kind of message for some packages like libXv libXaw and others
Code: |
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/libXi[abi_x86_32]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/libXi-1.6.2::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)
- x11-libs/libXi-1.6.1::gentoo (Missing IUSE: abi_x86_32)

Well, I suggest keeping an eye on the bug report. It seems something went wrong regarding the masking of flags and it is hoped that unmasking some stuff will solve the issue. |

I had a similar issue... and resolved it by changing my profile to systemd.
check if you got the correct profile selected and your portage synced.
Code: | eselect profile list
eselect profile set #profile_num |
then
Code: | emerge @preserved-rebuild && emerge -avuDN @world |
if this won't help :
Code: | emerge @preserved-rebuild && emerge -avupDN @system |
|

gandalf_hak ... the issue, as daddio pointed out, is ABI_X86 and the depreciation of app-emulation/emul-linux-x86* (or rather, the introduction of better mutlilib support). So, it has nothing to do with which profile is in use.

Quote: | It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected.
Could this be the problem? The style of conflict output with no parents that satisfy it suggest that it is.
Try something sufficiently high like --backtrack=9001 to see if that helps... |

Tom ... the thread is from March 2013, so whatever the actual issue, its most likely solved.

The migration (deprecation and introduction) is ongoing, the more tricky parts of it are carried out these days thus more users might experience this as we go forward; where additional backtracking is often the solution, to cover the tough changes in the dependency tree. |
