Since this morning (after spending yesterday on updating to kde 4.10.1) I get this when I want to update my system:

I'm pretty bad at reading these myself, and the more I try, the more I'm confuddled, methinks!
In any case, what I would try, is firstly re-sync just to be sure there wasn't something funny that slipped in to the tree you got into, and then, if all remains the same, try to emerge one of those packages alone. There's probably something obvious I'm missing right now, being tired and all... yeah, that's my excuse, but that's what I'd try to simplify it a bit at least.
Whenever I had some weird blocks myself, I'd often emerge -C them, with a sledge hammer. Of course, due care is to be had with the packages in question when going that route. ^^;
I'll look into it more in a bit, but I might bet someone else will crack it before I'm done.

I'm currently on default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde

After getting a fast reply for posting my emerge --info I got my hopes up on solving this quickly. But it seems that it was just some kind of delaying measure because after posting it we've progressed another full day...
Anyone else have an idea? |

Then I got:

I solved those issues by remerging those packages with the abi_x86_32 USE flag in package.use.
To make a long story short, I got the same issue then with, consecutively:

- x11-libs/libXaw
- x11-libs/libXcursor
- x11-libs/libXaw (yes, again)

- x11-libs/libICE (why not...)
- x11-libs/libXdamage

- x11-libs/libXcursor
After that I kinda lost my temper with it and unmerged and remerged the rest of X:

| Stuck on this too. I did even remove X11 overlay and tried to downgrade X to latest stable. I'm afraid that i hose the whole system if some elegant solution don't come up.... :-( |

Interesting, it may be an overlay issue then. What overlays do you run?

| i have used few years X11 overlay only, mainly because i want to use latest mesa/libdrm etc for my radeon 5770. One small notice is that this is really old gentoo installation, i turned the no-multilib profile to multilib few years back. |

| Well, I suggest keeping an eye on the bug report. It seems something went wrong regarding the masking of flags and it is hoped that unmasking some stuff will solve the issue. |

I had a similar issue... and resolved it by changing my profile to systemd.
check if you got the correct profile selected and your portage synced.

eselect profile set #profile_num |
then
| Code: | | emerge @preserved-rebuild && emerge -avuDN @world |

gandalf_hak ... the issue, as daddio pointed out, is ABI_X86 and the depreciation of app-emulation/emul-linux-x86* (or rather, the introduction of better mutlilib support). So, it has nothing to do with which profile is in use.

Could this be the problem? The style of conflict output with no parents that satisfy it suggest that it is.
Try something sufficiently high like --backtrack=9001 to see if that helps... |

| The migration (deprecation and introduction) is ongoing, the more tricky parts of it are carried out these days thus more users might experience this as we go forward; where additional backtracking is often the solution, to cover the tough changes in the dependency tree. |
