PostPosted: Thu Feb 28, 2013 7:22 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED]KDE 4.10 not loading plasma workspace, only failsafe Reply with quote

Hi all

I installed kde 4.10 today to see how good or bad KDE has become. I used awesome-wm and enlightenment for a long time now, but the news of 4.10 did make me curious. So I tried to install everything and took the kde-meta package.

Now I use to use slim as my login manager, but I did put that aside for the moment to try the new KDM.

Okay I can load into awesome-wm and enlightenment. I also can load into kde plasma workspace (failsafe mode), but I cannot load into the 'normal' kde plasma workspace.

The only thing I could find in the logs (kdm log that is)
Code:

klauncher(4615) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
kdmgreet(4609)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed:  "Not connected to D-Bus server"

kdmgreet(4609)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): No time zone information obtained from ktimezoned

Well there is nothing out of the ordinary in the Xorg.0.log, but Xorg.0.log.old give me kinda exact the same error message.

Code:

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

And I guess dbus is also doing well

Code:

$ ps -ef | grep dbus
message+  1841     1  0 19:56 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system
root      4420     1  0 20:03 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session
slaiter   4754     1  0 20:04 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session
slaiter   4755     1  0 20:04 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session
slaiter   5140  5123  0 20:18 pts/2    00:00:00 grep --colour=auto dbus

I tried a revdep-rebuild, but that did not work. I even tried a emerge -uND world, but also that did nothing.

I am in the dark here who can point me in the right direction, or just tell me what is wrong ;)

Thanks in advanced
