|
|
Hi there!
I recently emerged KDE, and got a slight problem with dolphin: Thumbnails for jpegs are not shown. For png or xfc it is working, also for videos, Textfiles and so on.
The option for jpeg-thumbnails in dolphins settings is enabled, when I enter the settings for jpeg-thumbnails I get a empty window with OK and Cancel. When I hit OK, dolphin crashes.
Any idea how to fix that? |

1. Start Dolphin in a Terminal, like kterm:
2. The output will be dumped to the Terminal Window
3. Repeat the process that causes the crash, and you'll catch the crash output.
4. Post the output here. _________________ The Birth and Growth of Science is the Death and Atrophy of Art -- Unknown

Well, that's the problem, there is no useful output:
KCrash: Application 'dolphin' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
When using "--nocrashhandler", I simply get a segmentation fault.
Thats it, no more output... |

I have a somewhat similar problem but in my case dolphin does
not crash - just does not show thumbnails
what is the result of running this command:
okular thumbnail:///absolut_path_to_jpg_image _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
doing as simply messing about with Linux ...
(apologies to Kenneth Graeme) |

@albright:
I simply get the errormessage that the file cannot be opened, and that "ThumbCreator jpegthumbnailer" cannot be loaded
Here's the complete output of Konqi of dolphins crash, hope that helps...

This may take awhile to compile, but I think I might have part of your issue resolved
Code: | nano -w /etc/make.conf
(add to USE)
USE="openvg pch webkit"
(save)
emerge -uDN world |
Let me explain
openvg enables low-level support for 2d vector graphics
pch adds pre-compiled header support - this speeds up compiling of the Qt Kit
webkit is the rendering engine for KDE webapps, actually KDE in general
-uDN will --update --Deep --Newuse(catch every package that needs webkit support, along with pch and openvg, and IIRC okular is one of them. The thumbnails are rendered in the webkit I believe) _________________ The Birth and Growth of Science is the Death and Atrophy of Art -- Unknown

Try albrights previous command:
Code: | okular thumbnail:///absolut_path_to_jpg_image |
with a real image ex
Code: | okular /home/<username>/Pictures/<image.ext> |
Replace the<> items with real items. Please post the output of the previous comand and:
Code: | emerge -pv kde-meta | and have a look at this post:

okular with normal images is working, also with thumbnails of png- and xcf-files.
With a jpg-thumbnail it says it cannot load "ThumbCreator jpegthumbnailer"
I am currently cleaning up my system, throwing out unused packaged, cleaning up use-flags, and reemerging all the kde stuff. Maybe it'll work after that... |
