gvfs is huge tho... I would be interested to hear about alternatives that are a bit thinner on dependancies. |

right, when using UDisks (udev) based automounting helper the line for cdrom in /etc/fstab should be removed or otherwise it will conflict with the automounter and prevent it from working.
that is true with sys-fs/udisks:0 (as in, UDisks1) but not anymore with sys-fs/udisks:2 (as in, UDisks2)
just saying that even this small information snippet is soon redudant |

you don't have to emerge consolekit, you can just install polkit without consolekit and drop in custom .rules file to /etc/polkit-1/rules.d that gives authorization to everyone in group
'plugdev' for udisks services
that emulates the behavior HAL had the close it's possible thesedays |

Ok, Thank you. I'm just paraniod about keeping a thin system and I really hate how bloated things are getting... Something as simple as mount a thumbdrive when it gets plugged in has become way more complex than it needs to be.... I'm not happy..... |

I'm not sure about any other file managers but Spacefm is really nice and does a hell of a lot as well as its own mounter for automounting (udevil, but works great with pmount too) - granted nothing hard requires udisks and thus consolekit and polkit you can completely purge all 3 from your system very easily - I did it quite some time ago. |
