So my mouse randomly stops working... Usb mouse, have tried different mice in different ports. still just stops working until i reboot. re emerged xf86-input stuff didn't help.

Is their at least a way to restart the service so i don't have to reboot? my keyboard still works.

First check dmesg for usb errors, possibly as a workaround you could try using a usb hub, or making the usb host driver a module and reloading it.

Does this only affect mice? Can you use, for example, a usb flash drive after it messes up? More details helps troubleshoot.

If you go to a text console, can you still cat /dev/input/mice, wiggle the mouse and get mousey data? If so, this would point towards a problem in X, if not, then hardware or kernel.

Maybe USB auto-suspend.

IIRC, that's a bit out of date - an equivalent fix (by my reading) went into systemd/udev 184 (with this commit).

Nah, that commit is also in udev fork, which I use, and I needed to add a custom rule to stop auto-suspend on my mouse.

You can just run that one-liner I gave, to check whether it's an issue. Something to do, to kill 10 seconds while waiting for your mouse to die again ;)
