This is a tip for people on LXDE. If you've run updates recently and suddenly LXDE won't start, you can try masking lxde-base/menu-cache-0.4.1, which "solved" the problem for me.

Aha, I'd forgotten about this. I remember this now.

To answer your question, yes, but not quite. You want to put =lxde-base/menu-cache-0.4.1 in package.mask. It was that specific version that needed to go to make way for something else (not at the computer I had the issue with, so I don't recall too much other than having the issue and what solved it).

could you put up the text of

eix -c lxde-base/

so I can see what you've got installed?

Did you install LXDE by emerging lxde-meta?

Just some additional info:

If you revdep-rebuild immediately after the LXDE upgrade, that should prevent the problem. What I found is:
Code:
[ 19% ]  *   broken /usr/bin/libfm-pref-apps (requires libmenu-cache.so.1)
[ 20% ]  *   broken /usr/bin/lxpanel (requires libmenu-cache.so.1)
[ 66% ]  *   broken /usr/lib64/libfm-gtk.so.1.0.0 (requires libmenu-cache.so.1)

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] lxde-base/lxpanel-0.5.10
[ebuild   R    ] x11-libs/libfm-0.1.17-r1

I rebooted and all was fine :D

That makes sense. That's a better solution than what I did.

OUTSTANDING! Worked like a champ and I'm able to tinker with LXDE.
