PostPosted: Sun Feb 03, 2013 5:28 pm    Post subject: (SOLVED) [SW-Raid] Root partión mount read-only Reply with quote

I've been installing a SW-Raid the following guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86+raid+lvm2-quickinstall.xml

My problem is that after reboot the root partition is mounting as read-only

Any idea why is it?

Thanks

sag,

Are you installing a 32 bit or 64 bit system ?

sag,

Ah. Your kernel will need
Code:
Support for large (2TB+) block devices and files (LBDAF)
enabled under
Code:
Enable the block layer (BLOCK)
to get ext4 write support on ext4 filesystems created with the default options.

This is already set

Code:

(chroot) livecd linux # grep LBDAF .config
CONFIG_LBDAF=y

sag,

Log in as root the prompt - it will be ugly but as long as it lets you in, then execute
Code:
mount -o remount, rw/

That should make root rw and you can pick up the pieces of services not started by hand.

Do you have any filesystem errors in dmesg?

root starts off ro. after rootfsck runs, its remounted rw.
do you have the right fs type in /etc/fstab?
If not, rootfsck will probably fail.

Could you be this the problem?

Maybe. I have a VPS with an ext3 filesystem but I use the ext4 driver. One reboot, it came back with messages like this but the filesystem was never fixed.
To get it back rw, I had to force ext3 on the kernel command line with rootfs=ext3. That may not help you.

Boot with a liveCD and run fsck manually. You may need to use -f as the fs may seem cleanand you want more than a journal replay. See the man page.
Run fsck again - does it try to fix the same errors all over again?

facepalm

The problem was that I had activated the option for tmpfs.
