|
|
Hi, While emerging gnome, I get the error:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.7.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: util.o: undefined reference to symbol 'g_module_symbol'
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.7.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: note: 'g_module_symbol' is defined in DSO /usr/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so.0 so try adding it to the linker command line
/usr/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so.0: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
I got quite a few DSO errors like the above. How do I fix them?
Thanks.

I actually seem to have the same problem with gcc 4.6.3, there are 22 different packages I can no longer build. Did you ever find a solution to your problem?
Code: |

suggest minor variation on the theme. routine updates in the last couple of weeks have done a stealth gcc upgrade to 4.6.3.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml refers
suggest: Code: | emerge gcc glibc glib
gcc-config -l | 4.6.3 is set active? if not set it. Code: | emerge --oneshot libtool | if emerge -1 libtool does not help perhaps emerge -e system when you have lots of time. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Thank you for responding. In frustration, I have been through a rebuild of everything a couple of times already (crazy emerge -e system and world repetitions).
I verified that I am on gcc 4.6.3.
Code: | # gcc-config -l
[1] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.5.4
[2] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.6.3 *
|
I ran through the upgrade steps (fix_libtool_files.sh, rebuild libtool when I switched.)
The rebuild of gcc, glibc and glib all went fine. As did the rebuild of libtool afterwards. Nothing rebuilt by revdep-rebuild.
Same errors on the rebuild of xchat, as above. On 2 of my Gentoo boxes these exact same ebuilds work without problem, on 2 others, no luck. So, that's a bit confusing. The configuration of the boxes are not absolutely identical (hardware or software), but the USE flags and portage FEATURES are pretty close.
Anyway, I appreciate the response, I am going to keep hacking away at it until I get it fixed. If you have any more ideas, I'd love to hear them. |

I have same error after switch to gcc-4.6.3. It's interesting that the compilation of "audacious-3.2.2-r1" works good, but "audacious-3.1.1" doesn't. |

Everything did seem to go sideways with the new gcc for me. But this was the first time I've tried to rebuild "world" in a couple of years (2011), so I wasn't sure if it was related to something else.
When I go back to the old gcc, it doesn't seem to fix things but I may need to rebuild more of the system with gcc 4.5.4.
I unmasked the latest audacious and that works for me as well. I have problems with gedit, tremulous, gdm, gnome-control-center, gnome-panel, gnome-system-monitor, yelp, gxine, xchat, gnome-terminal, and a few others. I have other problems unrelated to this DSO error, like dosemu. Some of them don't have newer builds available, or if they do they'd require unmasking a ton of ~amd64 gnome stuff to potentially fix.
EDIT: I've had a lot of luck fixing this by removing LD_LIBRARY_PATH from root's environment before running emerge. I remember why I set it originally in .bashrc, but it does seem to have caused a lot of unintended problems for me. |

I'm having the same problem with most of the same packages you've listed. I'm using gcc-4.7.3 which is marked as stable. Before this, I also had not done an emerge -e world for several years. I'm only doing it now because a hardware failure caused me to replace the MB and processor which are now somewhat different. I changed my CFLAGS in make.conf to reflect the newer processor (for the -march option).
I'm surprised to see that emerge -e world does not rebuild the packages in order of dependency (ie. I'd have expected to see glibc near the top of the list, but it was actually closer to the bottom, same for gcc and some others). I wonder if that's related.
Any suggestions other than what's already been posted in this thread are appreciated. |

By the way, I solved this problem by including a "LDFLAGS='-lgmodule-2.0'" in front of "emerge". I'm using x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.7.3. |
