|
|
Hello all,
I have little issue with fullscreen applications running in non-native resolution. My monitor has proportions 16:9 and when I run for example ioquake3 in resolution 1024x768, screen is displayed as 4:3 on 16:9 monitor. Hence black side bars on both sides.
Graphic card: nVidia GeForce 240M GT
I was looking for a solution on the Internet, but lots of them concerned Windows only. Unfortunately, they were no match for Linux.
I also tried to add Code: | Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" | as well as Code: | Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = aspect-scaled" | into xorg.conf with no success or change whatsoever.
Out here is an solution as option to change, however, there is no such thing in my nvidia-settings:

Would be grateful for solution. |

Err, isn't that good? Or do you actually want a stretched-out picture? The way the Nvidia driver does this stuff in drivers newer than 300 has changed. I could tell you how it's done now, but I frankly don't see the sense in helping someone get a distorted picture. Of course, there's always the official nvidia documentation you could look at... |

I don't think it's good. The gameplay is way less comfortable this way. Let me show you how it looks now (sorry for bad quality):
Screenshot
Normally, the screen should be stretched. |

No, what you're seeing now is *normal*. It's scaled to aspect, as it should be. I think it's possible to put quake into a widescreen resolution, if you manually write some stuff into it's config file. That's what you should be searching for how to do. |

Perhaps you're right, but all suggestions I could find to mess with config files concerned Windows (or external software for it).
Anyway, Quake is just an example here. Sometimes, there will be need to run some other application with 4:3 aspect ratio resolution. Then what? Config files again? It's a little inconvenient, I think. Can you, please give me the solution so I could test it and see, whether or not it is what I'm looking for? |

I remember when some TV stations here in the US started transmitting stretched picture to fill the 16:9 screens I couldn't stand it, I stopped watching those channels. Am I getting it right? Engineers and inventors have done their best to get the picture as natural as possible. Now you want to mangle your picture, stretch it out of proportions? What would possibly be the benefit by doing so? _________________ My Gentoo installation notes.

I'm not sure why you are so against it. On my second system (Windows 7) this option is enabled by default. I can play games/use applications with aspect ratio 4:3 (in fullscreen mode) on my widescreen and there ain't any inconvenience about it. The difference is: I know how to change it there, but not here.
I'm just asking for a solution, I'm aware of the result. |

Accordingly to official nVidia documentation, I tried to put line Code: | Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling=native" | into xorg.conf. Once again, though, with no result. Do you have any other suggestions, how it can be done? |
