So upgrading from 171 to 197 went perfectly fine on my system.
Sincere thanks to the gentoo devs who made this possible, Samuli & William for sure... and all those who contributed more anonymously !
A little question remains :
As part of the doc installed by the package in /usr/share/doc/udev-197-r3, one can read : bzcat README.bz2 wrote: | REQUIREMENTS:
Linux kernel >= 2.6.39
with devtmpfs
with cgroups (but it's OK to disable all controllers) |
From what I deduce that CONFIG_CGROUPS should be set.
I just discovered this afterwards (udev's ebuild cares about CONFIG_DEVTMPFS setting but not about CONFIG_CGROUPS) and run udev 197 on a cgroups-less kernel. What should I expect going wrong ?
BTW : No problem met during two days of continuous work with udev-197 on a ck-sources-2.6.38-r3 x86_64 monolithic kernel + nvidia-drivers + no-exotic-hardware.
I still really wonder what, technically, makes KV_MIN=2.6.39 _________________
