Now running X without AIGLX turned on and I am not seeing any significant difference.
Why is the purpose of AIGLX??

AIGLX is mostly used by OpenGL compositors, such as Compiz, KDE's kwin with OpenGL desktop effects or GNOME's mutter. |

Not really, they all use direct rendering. AIGLX was only used in the short period of time when open drivers weren't capable of redirected direct rendering. DRI2 then made that possible, making AIGLX obsolete for desktop use. |
