I've installed gentoo, with flubox as my wm on a raspberry pi. It works pretty well except for one very annoying problem. Anytime I run something somewhat cpu intensive, such as emerge, I loose the mouse. Well, just the vertical component actually. I can still see it at the bottom of the screen and move it left and right, just not up and down.
Has anyone ever run in to this?
Is this something that could be fixed with "nice"?

Aside from shamelessly bumping this post, Let me ask this question in a different way.

I want to lower the priority of emerge. where are default priority levels defined?
what would be a safe level to bump emerge down.... or actually up to.

Unfortunately the Raspberry Pi's USB part is not very well-behaved, especially under load. But your problem description sounds strange.

If I/O load causes the problem (as opposed ot CPU load) you can try switching to deadline scheduler instead of CFQ. There is also PORTAGE_IONICE_COMMAND which you can use to decrease emerge I/O priority.
