|
|
Hi all,
I've started the installation off the 16meg iso, which I believe is the stage1 setup. I'm still unfamiliar with some of the terms so please bear with me.
I got through the install to the point of setting up the modules. However, I have a USB NIC (DLink DSB-650TX) which uses the pegasus module. It seems that module is no where to be found on the cd.
I found the module, but it's in .c form and I believe it needs to be .o. I'm not that familiar with compiling programs. When I tried to mount my floppy drive I wasn't able to do so. I'm installing Gentoo on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop so I think there may be an issue there, but am not sure where to look.
Question:
1) Can I use any pegasus.o file that I find on the 'net?
2) should 'mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy' work on mounting the drive?
3) Since i'm on a laptop do I need to do some installation for the floppy drive to be detected?
I've been able to successfully install and run both Mandrake 8.2 and Debian Woody so I know the floppy drive works. I'm guessing there is something different in how Gentoo is installing to make it not easily accessible.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

No. It would have to be compiled against the kernel on the boot disk, which is (I think) version 2.4.19-gentoo-r7, which is 2.4.18 + a bunch of patches.

Do you still have either of those running on the machine, and do you have a spare partition in addition? If so, you will probably find it much easier to install from inside a running Linux environment as described in the alternative installation guide. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

And when mounting the floppy, try adding the -t flag with the filesystem. |
