Hello All!

I am new to Gentoo. I executed command "emerge jmeter". After that, I did not find the installed jmeter. I have "Linux 3.2.1-gentoo-r2 #1 SMP Fri Mar 2 07:33:02 GMT 2012 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux". Please, help me to emerge jmeter.

Thank you if you answer.

The output of "emerge jmeter" had been:

Code:

# emerge jmeter
 * Last emerge --sync was 320d 4h 36m 50s ago.

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring CONFIG_PROTECT).

Since you don't have X in your USE flags, I wonder if this means that you need to set a desktop profile, as described in the section "Choosing the Right Profile"

Hi, Alexander731. There are two informative exception/information messages there that you need to pay close attention to:
Code:
 * Last emerge --sync was 320d 4h 36m 50s ago.
First, this tells me that this is probably not a system that you put together yourself, because it's severely out of date. Gentoo is a "rolling release" distribution and, if you try to install new software, things start to break more and more the further out of date it becomes, so expect other problems. There can be legitimate reasons for freezing an installation (e.g., it's a production server and changes are being intentionally kept to a minimum), but that doesn't change the fact.

Second,
Code:
The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
#required by x11-libs/gtk+-2.24.8-r1, required by dev-java/icedtea-bin-6.1.11.1[X], required by virtual/jdk-1.6.0[-sparc-solaris,-sparc64-solaris,-x86-linux,-amd64-linux,-x86-solaris,-x64-solaris], required by dev-java/bsf-2.4.0-r1, required by app-benchmarks/jmeter-2.0.1-r4, required by jmeter (argument)
=x11-libs/cairo-1.10.2-r1 X
Simply put, this says that x11-libs/cairo package needs to be rebuilt with the X USE flag enabled for you to proceed with the current software install. How to work with USE flags—and what USE flags are—is explained in the Gentoo Handbook, Working with Gentoo section.
