Honestly, with your post post count, you should know already, that without a working crystal ball not much can be done with your question as it is.
Reread that snippet you've pasted. |

The trouble was determining which thread would be best to reply to. While your post is lacking any useful information as already mentioned, your subject will hit the mark for many. So here goes:
It seems upgrading to VLC 2.0.5 has become somewhat messy. It's important due to several glsa issues affecting prior versions, e.g. (here and here). Perhaps I can save everyone else who will be affected by this some time instead of attempting to search through x threads guessing:
1. The illegal instruction issue also referenced here.
2. Configure fail on build due to ncurses (ncursesw.pc missing from PKG_CONFIG_PATH and entire system, see the link for why--essentially ncurses perhaps needs a revision bump).
A very limited upstream explanation on ncurses issue. _________________ Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. |

The solution to this problem appears in the links referenced in this forum thread, but for the sake of completeness, here it is: To get vlc to compile you can do one of two things:
a) Disable the ncurses USE flag for vlc, then emerge vlc, or
b) emerge ncurses again (with no particular version or flags, just reemerging the latest stable ncurses will do), and then emerge vlc.
Hope this helps. |
