I've recently tried to play with synclient to try to figure out a way for the synaptics driver to perform a good tap and grab gesture to select text in the shell.
While doing that and saving what I thought could be a better configuration I ended up with a weird issue: the single tap now is not recognized.
This is the current config for the synaptics driver:
Code: |
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
# This option is recommend on all Linux systems using evdev, but cannot be
# enabled by default. See the following link for details:
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "SendCoreEvents"
Option "SHMConfig" "on"
Option "LeftEdge" "130"
Option "RightEdge" "840"
Option "TopEdge" "130"
Option "BottomEdge" "640"
Option "FingerLow" "7"
Option "FingerHigh" "8"
Option "FingerPress" "70"
Option "ClickTime" "0"
Option "ClickFinger1" "1"
Option "ClickFinger2" "2"
Option "ClickFinger3" "3"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "TapButton2" "2"
Option "TapButton3" "3"
Option "FastTaps" "1"
Option "TapAndDragGesture" "1"
Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "75"

Option "MinSpeed" "0.84"
Option "MaxSpeed" "5"
Option "AccelFactor" "0.18"
Option "EdgeMotionMinSpeed" "200"
Option "EdgeMotionMaxSpeed" "200"
Option "UpDownScrolling" "1"
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "on"
Option "VertScrollDelta" "47"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "47"
Option "MaxTapTime" "180"
Option "MaxTapMove" "110"
Option "MaxDoubleTapTime" "250"
Option "PalmDetect" "1"
EndSection

Thanks in advance for any help for solving this issue.

Start with dropping SHMConfig line - it's been obsoleted in quite awhile. |

I've removed the suggested line without success.
Then I started removing the various lines one by one and finally found the parameter that caused the problem: it was the PalmDetect set to 1, once disabled the single tap is working fine again.
Thanks in any case for the help.
