I have just built a new system based on Intel i5-3570K, mobo Asrock Z77 Extreme 4. I am using the integrated Intel HD4000 as video card.
Everything seems fine but when I play video, I experience video tearing. This happens with both mplayer and vlc, and also with videos from youtube. However, it doesn't happen with a live version of Ubuntu, so I guess I have something not correctly configured on Gentoo.

This the 'Graphics support' section of my kernel config:
Code:

#
# Graphics support
#
CONFIG_AGP=y
# CONFIG_AGP_AMD64 is not set
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=y
# CONFIG_AGP_SIS is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_VIA is not set
CONFIG_VGA_ARB=y
CONFIG_VGA_ARB_MAX_GPUS=16
# CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO is not set
CONFIG_DRM=y
CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER=y
# CONFIG_DRM_LOAD_EDID_FIRMWARE is not set
CONFIG_DRM_TTM=m
# CONFIG_DRM_TDFX is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_R128 is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_RADEON is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_NOUVEAU is not set

This is the output of lspci -k

try configuring xorg.conf with
Code:
Option "TearFree" "true"

set in Device section.

DaggyStyle's advice is sound, however, if it doesn't work (especially 1080p), you might need to wait for kernel 3.8, where a final proper fix is allegedly there for pretty much all Intel based graphics.

Thanks a lot!! I tried DaggyStyle's and it is working (not tried with 1080p, but at least it works with videos I usually see). Happy to hear there are improvements to come in future releases.
