|

In OpenAL games - Serious Sam 3 form Steam and UT2004 (directly form DVD), and some games run under Wine (or maybe CrossoverGames, I don't remember exactly), sound coming from my Audigy2 ZS gets distorted - it is skips about 3 times per second.
I use PulseAudio. If I switch to integrated Intel soundard, the problem is gone (but I'd rather use Audigy for gaming)

I have this problem for at least two years (I remember trying to play Lineage under CrossOver Games, then pure Wine - one of those had this problem, the other didn't), but I'm sure some years ago this must have worked fine, because I used to play UT2004 on this machine a lot (maybe I din't use PulseAudio that time). _________________ The question of whether Machines Can Think... is about as relevant as the question of whether Submarines Can Swim.

I found someone with a very similar problem on the Steam forums. The audio file linked there sounds pretty much the same as when I try to use my Audigy card, but he has this porblem with Intel card, while on my machine, Intel card works fine, but Audigy produces strange sounds. _________________ The question of whether Machines Can Think... is about as relevant as the question of whether Submarines Can Swim.

OK. I was able to workaround this bug by disabling the Pulse driver in OpenAL config - i.e. creating a ~/.alsoftrc file:
