I've been using e17 for years, but I rarely update or keep up to date with news. Since I've finally got some time off, I went to update e17. I couldn't use niifaq overlay anymore, and after taking a brief look through the thread, found that it was finally in portage. I'm amazed that e17 has finally arrived!
Fortunately, I've had no trouble updating. Unfortunately, there's one particular change that is driving me up the wall. Perhaps it's user error on my part. It seems that e17 now puts full screen applications into windowed mode when I change desktops. I'd really like for this not to happen, but cannot find a preference for it anywhere. I don't like my movies and games to go into windowed mode when I change desktops for half a second, it's really annoying! Please tell me there's some way to change this!
Also, since I used to just get all my modules from the niifaq overlay, I'm a bit lost as to where to get them now. Can anyone recommend a nice weather module? |

It might be possible to use the weather modules if you use the enlightenment overlay since the ebuilds should be able to handle the enlightenment from portage.
I have noticed the fullscreen problem. But it happens only with some applications. Browser fullscreens are properly handled for example. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Someone can give me a list of all packages related to e17(not forced deps, helper apps, etc)? My bug for a dedicated category hasn't been taken up and portage is so unsorted in this regard, that I'd have to search for "e17" "enlightenment" "dr17" "^e" and every combination of them. _________________ ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>. |

I asked this earlier in the thread, and ppurka responded to say that the only e17 related packages are the dependencies.
Good Luck.. |

Thanks. I was talking more about applications specifically for e17 or built on EFL, like enki, enjoy or envision, but there not currently in portage.
Still, since e17 is built to be(come) a complete desktop environment, I think it deserves it's own category in portage. _________________ ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>. |

Strange, when i try to enable opengl e17 crashes, i'm using nvidia and eselect points to nvidia
And it seems layout changing app is not fully functional: I can not change keyboard layout despite alt+shift option was enabled. _________________ "Dear Enemy: may the Lord hate you and all your kind, may you be turned orange in hue, and may your head fall off at an awkward moment."

BTW, using Code: | ENLIGHTENMENT_MODULES="-something" emerge enlightenment:0.17 | spits a lot of errors, how am I supposed to use this(also doesn't work in make.conf)? _________________ ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>. |

After the upgrade from some beta to the final release all my custom e17 configuration vanished. On the next start I've been welcomed by the configuration dialogue. There was no warning, no hint in the elog. Is this intended? |

I installed enlightenment-0.17.0_beta2 today.
The only problem I'm having is this:
1. switch themes
2. minimize a program
3. the program icon in the ibox goes blurry
Is anyone else experiencing this?

I've had this problem, too. I solved it somehow, but I can't tell you what I did (perhaps I did nothing and the problem was fixed and is now there again), sorry. Try experimenting with the settings of the layout switcher. I think that is what I did. _________________ Kali Ma

It has been so for more than a month.

Ah, probably set it to another basic layout, then. _________________ Kali Ma

Well I got E17 installed and it works. However I can't figure out how to get network-manager to show up in the system tray setting network manager as a startup application seems to have no effect at all. I also cannot get E to work with my dual monitor setup. Secondary screen is setup in portrait mode however even when I do get it setup into that orientation windows maximize across both screens and the bottom of the desktop is extended across screens which means that the taskbar panel is invisible on the main screen. Anyone have any clues on how to fix these two issues?
Ps. That screen setup dialog is a travesty. _________________ Ware wa mutekinari.

Happy New Year to you, too.
Nice theme, except for the colour, but they're the Gentoo colours, so I understand why you chose them. _________________ Kali Ma

I just unmerged KDE and merged E17.
Just incase anyone is wondering e17 is available in ~x86. You don't need an overlay to get the new version. For me it uses only 56mb ram for Gentoo. On Debian it used 46 mb. I'm thinking this might have something to do with some old KDE or system processes running in the background that I haven't yet yanked. Also, I think I was able to install a minimal version in Debian so this could be why too.
The cpu idle is really low. I've yet to see another wm beat this. I wasnt able to get connman to work and from net searches I hear there has been little success in general with it.
Anyways, that's my success with e17. It's much more snappy then KDE of course. On thingI noticed is that it doesn't come with 'terminology', the terminal for e17. It can easily be installed:
Code: | emerge x11-terms/terminology |
I would think this terminal would be included. |
