I've always been a minimalist with my window managers. I really don't like anything installed that doesn't have to be. I still like it to look good, I just want it to be fast and functional as well. Currently I run openbox with the tint2 taskbar. I love my setup, however my wife hates it and I'm thinking about being nice and trying to find a friendlier interface for her. Any suggestions? I'd rather not sacrifice too much speed.

Thanks

There's also razorqt. Or just razorqt-panel if that's all you want.

For minimal systems, I like fluxbox + eterm. That is about 4 packages I think. If you require desktop icons, then you can use idesk.

Personally, I have found fluxbox to be an excellent desktop for lightweight use. It can look good, and it does everything you need. I also keep it for when (not if) my DE breaks.

What is it exactly your wife does not like. You can add something like idesk to display icons on the desktop if this is what she is missing. I'm using wbar myself to provide fast access to most used apps (screenshot).

I've come to like LXDE. It's functional and not bloated.

Xfce is clean too.

RazorQt could become a light kde if there's more apps in the futur.

Thanks everyone for the great input.

I used to run XFCE and really liked it. I considered going back to that. I haven't really used lxde or icewm. I've heard mixed reviews about razorqt.

I think jaglover may have a point though. She never actually said what she doesn't like. I think I'm going to try out wbar and see if that shuts her up :)
