Can anyone recommend group-oriented or company-oriented software for chat, task management, time/resource management, and code management? I'm considering Campfire, Trello, Float, and GitHub respectively, but I'd rather find something open-source I can install on my server. I also need something for document management but it looks like dokuwiki might fit the bill. Any experience with this stuff? I don't have specific requirements as I've never really used any of these types of software before.

It should be easy enough to set up a jabber chat service for your company. I did that once, but it was years ago so I don't remember much.

For task management, a year or two ago I went looking for online community-oriented management stuff on sourceforge.net, and found some interesting and viable ideas. You could do a search there and experiment with various programs.

3 Matches.
I do not have any experience with zarafa or sugarcrm. But I am struggling for over two years now to be allowed to introduce eGroupWare at my company.

For a chat, jabber should do. Both net-im/ejabberd and net-im/jabberd2 look like they are still actively worked upon. (At least from a glance at their sites)

I found the cloud service Podio which looks very promising, but egroupware looks interesting too. I will give that a try.

Just browsed through their demo. It *does* look nice. Maybe a bit cleaner and tidier than eGroupWare.

Is tine 2.0 free as in beer? egroupware is pricey although there is a free crippleware version.

I can recommend Zarafa (on Debian though), especially if you're planning on connecting Outlook – or Android – clients through ActiveSync. The only pitty is that my Evolution can't connect to Zarafa yet, as evolution-exchange needs OWA, which Zarafa doesn't provide. Let's hope that evolution-mapi will hit Portage soon.
