Quote: | Global emissions of carbon dioxide were at a record high in 2011 and are likely to take a similar jump in 2012, scientists reported Sunday — the latest indication that efforts to limit such emissions are failing.
Emissions continue to grow so rapidly that an international goal of limiting the ultimate warming of the planet to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, established three years ago, is on the verge of becoming unattainable, said researchers affiliated with the Global Carbon Project. |

Unless they have no real interest in change, then I'm skeptical it could be done through the EPA. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

But thank God we stopped nuclear, because then we'd have a 'real' problem! _________________

He shot his wad railroading Obamacare.
He's too busy playing chicken with the Republicans again over his tax increases to do anything about Global Warming. If he had to legalize whaling and burn down the rain forests to get spending increases, he'd do it (and then blame it on Republicans). _________________

Nukular FTW \o/. No thanks, not interested in the waste which will be produced. And that assumes humans are infallible and there is no chance of disaster.

I heard this AM that the current "deal" was $1.6T in taxes, $600M in cuts. We need to make those a 1:1 IMO, or as close as possible. $600M is a joke. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

Yes, that's right. Solar and wind-power are even worse. Do you have any idea how much carbon is produced in the manufacture and erection of a single wind turbine or array or solar collectors? There is only one solution: we must sterilize two-thirds of the human race at once. _________________

Actually, no. How much? And how much is that in relation to their estimated lifetime power output? And when exactly did man-made climate change stop being a lie concocted by evil scientists, by the way? |

Just before a strawman became valid logic.
You also missed the point entirely. I'll let you go back and figure it out, but if you need help, let somebody know. _________________

Why bother? The site is safe to walk around now.
pjp wrote: | Nukular FTW \o/. No thanks, not interested in the waste which will be produced. |
So don't just discard spent rods? Recycle the rods, reclaim the unspent fuel, separate other useful isotopes into productive products, and what you'll have left over is trivial in quantity and inert. Did you know there's now a pending shortage of medical nuclear isotopes in Europe because of the brain damaged knee-jerk reaction to Fukushima?
pjp wrote: | And that assumes humans are infallible and there is no chance of disaster. |
Modern plant designs don't have the flaws of Chernobyl and Fukushima, both of which were known long before the disasters occurred, but political mismanagement and nuclear hysteria prevented the construction of new plants to replace them. _________________

It's their own fault. If Japan hadn't got all Imperial-Racist and tried to take over half the world, we wouldn't have had to nuke them (rather than send hundreds of thousands more of our boys to their deaths), and then they wouldn't have developed this hysteria about nuclear disasters, giant mutating creatures, and schoolgirl pedophilia. _________________

For me, it boils down to this, when you brush the hysteria aside, you're far more likely to die in an aviation accident, than a nuclear disaster. Statistically nuclear industry is the safest in the world. _________________

Chernobyl will be causing cancer long after our current civilization has fallen, through the next dark age, through the next civilization, after its subsequent dark age, and in all probability, after the extinction of humanity. That still doesn't mean nuclear energy should be shunned. _________________

I disagree. And at the end of the day, it amounts to who has the numbers. Personally the waste issue is my main concern, giving the benefit of the doubt to the "disasters are now impossible" claim. I don't believe the latter, but it is moot until the waste issue is resolved. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.
