|
|
Several USE flags that, it seems like I might want to set, appear with an 'm' flag next to the in the output of euse. For example running `euse -i dvd`gives me
Code: | [- m] dvd - Adds support for DVDs |
I am told that the m means that the USE flag is masked. Other USE flags that I may want to set that are shown like this are upnp and x264.
There are plenty of other flags like this but, most of them have an obvious reason why they don't apply on ARM (for example sse, multilib).
Can anyone tell me more about what this means, why these flags are masked, what happens if I set them in make.conf anyway etc? |

according to the profile, some useflags (dvd is among them) have not yet been tested. see /usr/portage/profiles/arch/arm/use.mask for details. _________________ read the portage output!

Thanks.
Do you know if I can enable masked flags like DVD (though obviously it would be unsupported). |

yes you can: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-376608.html
in a nutshell:
Code: | echo "-dvd" >> /etc/portage/profile/use.mask |

Thanks. Will that not be over-written by portage at some point though? I thought things in the /usr/portage/profiles directory and under get overwritten if they are changed and that generally, one should use the files in /etc/portage instead. |

that's why it says /etc/portage/profile/use.mask.
