After upgrading to Ardour 2.8.14 all lv2 plugins are invisible/unuseable. After downgrading to Ardour-2.8.12 again, they become visible again and averything works as expected.

Unfortunately this behavior is a showstopper for Version 2.8.14.

If nobody knows a solution for this I will go to file a bug. Thanks a lot.

First of all, Paul Davis doesn't support Gentoo, so please don't file a bug. On the other hand, I do support Ardour on Gentoo as part of Gentoo Studio, so let me see if I can help.

Please post your emerge --info so I can see what kind of system you're running, and we'll try to find out what's going on.

BTW: What means: "Paul Davis doesn´t support Gentoo" ? Is this real?

I forgot to ask for the output of emerge -pv ardour. You're using the ebuild from the pro-audio overlay, right?

And yes, that is real. Paul told me himself that he does not support Gentoo. I understand his reasons for that. I simply decided to support any changes to the Ardour ebuild on my own.

Anyway, assuming you're using the ebuild from the pro-audio overlay, you want this one. It includes some necessary fix-ups for running Ardour on 64-bit Gentoo. Once you've compiled from this ebuild, let me know if you still have the same issue.

Hi,

I dont use the ebuild from proaudio. I recently included proaudio just to test some additional tools. I am using ardour on 3 machines: 2 Notebooks (One x86 and the other amd64) and 1 Desktop. Since am do mobile recordings and I probably cope the whole project from a notebook to the desktop, it is quite important for me to have the same version of ardour. Up to now the gentoo version did the job.

This is my emerge -pv ardour output:

Code:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ~] media-sound/ardour-2.8.12  USE="lv2 nls sse (-altivec) -curl -debug" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

 * IMPORTANT: 6 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

BTW: I dont think that Pauls support is required here. For me it seems to be an ebuild issue. The lv2 useflag is just not working for some reason.

emerge -pv ardour with not masking 2.8.14:

Code:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U ~] media-sound/ardour-2.8.14 [2.8.12] USE="lv2 nls sse (-altivec) -curl -debug" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 0 kB

 * IMPORTANT: 6 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

This is what Paul told me:

Code:

@Erdie: we do not support any Linux distributions. we support all Linux distributions. The binary bundle that I release should run on every Linux distribution. The ones where it doesn't work probably have something seriously messed up or represent a unique debugging opportunity. At this time I am not aware of any Gentoo specific issues.

What we/I do not support are packages of Ardour built by a distribution (including Gentoo, even though you probably built it locally).

I understand this point. BTW: Why can´t Gentoo make an ardour-bin ebuild? This would make sense.

thanks a lot
Erdie

Maybe I'll write an ardour-bin ebuild.

If you want, check out Gentoo Studio to make sure your machine is optimally tweaked for audio production.
